For the second year in a row, Worth magazine has designated Habitat for Humanity International one of the Top 100 Non Profits in the U.S.

Habitat for Humanity International was selected from the more than 800,000 public charities in the United States. This designation names Habitat for Humanity as one of the nonprofit organizations that are making the biggest impact with donors' money, dollar for dollar.

Categorized by Worth as a human services organization, Habitat for Humanity stands alongside groups such as America's Second Harvest, the Girl Scouts, the Salvation Army and Special Olympics. Worth points out that in times of recession, more people rely on human services organizations, and in difficult economic times, these groups need even more support.

Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to good stewardship of funds, and we are proud of our place on Worth magazine's Top 100 list. Thanks to our donors for their continued generosity as we build houses and hope worldwide.

By contributing items to Recycle!

One of the ways Scioto County Habitat for Humanity raises funds is by collecting and recycling inkjet cartridges, toner cartridges, cell phones, laptops & PDAs. Listed below are some of the places you can drop off these items:

Scioto County Courthouse, Portsmouth City Offices, Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce & Welcome Center, all branches of the Portsmouth Public Library; plus numerous area churches and schools. Bihl Office Supply, The Emporium at Portsmouth, Ink In A Blink, Office Peddler, George Pettit MD Inc., Market Street Cafe and SOMC Life Centers located in Portsmouth, Lucasville and Wheelersburg.

You can sponsor a piece of a house!

Monetary gifts to Scioto County Habitat for Humanity can be designated for a specific part of a house. (Yes, the gift may be in honor of someone... for instance, at the Glenwood Avenue build, the kitchen steps were donated in honor of beloved long-time New Boston resident Enid Shumway Schomberg.)

Ranging from drywall screws to a heating system, items you can sponsor include:
